Howard Lee Campbell, 77, of 1789 Mount View Road, Danville, VA, died Friday, May 17, 2019 at his residence after a one month decline in his health. Mr. Campbell was born in Pittsylvania County, VA, on July 1, 1941 a son of the late William Beauford Campbell and Lucy Ingram Campbell. He lived most of his life in Pittsylvania County and retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.

He was a very active member of Welcome Baptist Church and was saved there in 1972. He enjoyed spending time with his family, attending the great grandchildren’s baseball games, and woodcrafts. Mr. Campbell was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1958 until 1961.

On August 18, 1970, he was married to Joan Carolyn Cox Campbell, who survives. In addition to his wife, of the residence, he is survived by a son, Robert L. Bean (Susan); two daughters, Wendy Lewis, and Angela Keatts (John); three grandchildren, Robb Bean, Ashley Clark (Nick), and Marie Boor (Drew); four great grandchildren, Mason and Harper Clark, Keaton and Charleigh Boor; three brothers, Robert “Bobby” Campbell, Harry Campbell, and Donald “Don” Campbell; and three sisters, Ann Harris, Patricia Strader, and Linda Sprigg. Mr. Campbell was predeceased by two grandchildren, Kellie Lewis and Daniel Lewis; and two brothers, Frank E. Campbell, and Joseph “Joe” Campbell.

The family wishes to thank the Nurses and Staff of Liberty Hospice, especially Vicky Crews, for the wonderful care given to their father during his illness. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Welcome Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Woods, Rev.

Jimmy Hussey and Rev. Billy Hedrick officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by the U.S. Army and the American Legion Dan River Post 1097 Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 20, 2019 at the church from 12:30 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. and at the residence at other times. The family suggests memorial donations may be made to the Patient Access Network Foundation (P.A.N. Cancer) 805 15th Street NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC 20005. Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is serving the Campbell family.
