Nancy Moore Lewis, 93, passed away at her home peacefully on Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Born March 4, 1926 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late William Lester and Ellen Soyars Moore. She lived most her life in Danville.

Until declining health prevented, she was a very active member at Woodberry Hills Baptist Church. Her greatest love was for her family and her Lord and Savior. She spent many years devoted to Sunday School as Superintendent and loved her church family dearly.

She graduated from University of Richmond – West Hampton College in 1946 as valedictorian and started teaching with a focus in Math. She taught school for over 40 years and enjoyed her students and they loved her as well. She was such a special kind caring soul and shared her love with all that knew her.

She is survived by her four loving children, Carl M. Lewis Jr.(Julie Vause) Danville, Richard Lester Lewis (Kim Law Lewis)Chatham, Mary Lewis Dixon (Predeceased Mike Dixon) Summerfield, NC, and Ruth Ann Lewis Evans of the residence. Special deepest love and appreciation to Ruth Ann who devoted the last few years of her life as Mama’s full time caregiver which we are all so grateful. Her 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren brought so much joy to her life.

They all cherished their Nana! Elizabeth Lewis Morris (Husband – James, children- Natalie, Thad and Lucas), Josh and Jessica Dixon, Karley Lewis and predeceased by Jacob Lewis who we all are sure he is so happy to see his “Tance” and holding her close. In addition she is survived by sister in law Delores Moore and special “just like a sister” cousin, Becky Moore as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She is predeceased by Carl M. Lewis and her three brothers and one sister: William (Bill) P. Moore, Robert (Bobby) H. Moore /Lila, Johnny C. Moore/Margaret and Mary (Tommie) Moore Scruggs/Richard. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Woodberry Hills Baptist Church. Family will receive friends starting at 11:00 a.m and service to follow at 12 Noon.

Interment will follow at the Moore Family Cemetery on Loomfixer Lake Road, Danville, VA. Swicegood Funeral Service is respectfully serving the Lewis family.
