Obituary for Devon Lamar Johnson Devon Lamar Johnson, age 25, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in Bluefield, West Virginia. He was born in Mercer County and was the son of Brenda Griffith Johnson of Princeton, West Virginia and the late Albert Johnson. Devon was a former professional football player having signed with the Carolina Panthers.
He played high school football at Richlands High School Class of 2012 and went on to play four years at Marshall University graduating in 2016. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Meriland and Mae Griffith and his paternal grandparents, Hayborn and Gladys Johnson. Survivors are: Girlfriend: Brittany Smith Sisters: Savannah Griffith of Princeton, West Virginia Kellie Johnson and fiancée Maurice Crockett of Charlotte, North Carolina Brothers: Jeffrey Johnson and wife, Ruthie of Ft.
Wayne, Indiana Adrian Johnson and wife, Frances of Pounding Mill, Virginia Austin Johnson and fiancée, Francesca Rasi of Bluefield, West Virginia Albert “AJ” Johnson, Jr. and girlfriend, Kathleen Carpenter of Huntington, West Virginia Nieces and Nephews: Gabriell Johnson, Amelia Johnson, Brianna Farley, Elizabeth Farley, Seth Johnson, Brandon Farley, Brent Farley, Jordan Johnson, Noah Johnson, and Illana Johnson. Funeral services for Devon Johnson will conducted Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 1pm at the Southwest Virginia Community College Community Center Gymnasium in Cedar Bluff, Virginia with the Rev. Craig Barber, Kevin McGlothlin, Greg Mance, and Doc Holiday officiating.
Interment will follow at Hartwell Cemetery in Hartwell, West Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Lee Tessner, Dre Scott, Todd McGlothlin, Jonathan Blankenship, Gatlin Spangler, Josh Hess, Heath Brown, Cody Johnson, Jack Gammon, Cody Fuller, and D.J. Hunter. Honorary Pallbearers will be former teammates of Richlands High School and Marshall University football teams.
