Oswald, 85, of Lafayette passed away March 8 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He retired after 32 years as a Captain/Firefighter for the Syracuse Fire Dept. He was very active in Midstate Youth Hockey and founded the first snack bar at the coliseum.

He originated the apple fritters at the St. Joseph’s Apple Festival. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, member of the Elks Lodge, and Sr. Citizen Golf League at Apple Orchard. He owned various businesses and retired from Lancaster Laundrette.

Don had an amazing sense of humor with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He shared his residency in FL, Lafayette and The St. Lawrence River for 20 years. Don is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia A. Oswald; his children, Pamela (Fred) Richardson, Cindy (Jim) Cusyk, Susan Oswald, Donald G. Oswald, Margaret (Craig) Burton; his nieces, Denise Dwyer & Michelle (Rob) Underwood; his nephews, Dick (Margie) Dwyer & Michael Oswald; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Thursday March 14 at St. Patrick’s Church in Otisco with burial to follow in Onondaga Valley Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM at the Butler-Badman Funeral Home, Inc., 4504 W. Seneca Tpk. , Syracuse.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick’s Church, 1865 NY Route 80, Tully, NY 13159.
