Eugene “Gene” J. King, age 90, of McHenry, passed away September 4, 2018 at JourneyCare in Woodstock, with his family by his side. He was born October 23, 1927 in McHenry to Stephen and Mary (Smith) King. On November 11, 1952 in St. Mary Catholic Church of McHenry, he married his life’s love, Eileen L. Smith.

For the remainder of his working years, Gene was employed Eby Brown until his retirement. A member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Eugene was a devout Catholic and devoted member of the Catholic Order of Foresters Court 596. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, and caring for his home.

He will be remembered for his ballroom dancing talent, his deep love for traveling, and his unmatched card-playing skills, which he tested regularly with the same group of card-playing friends for over fifty years. Left to cherish Gene’s memory are his devoted wife of 66 years, Eileen; four children, Steven (Cynthia) King, Mary Ellen King, James (Susan) King, Diane (William) Weyde; six grandchildren, Michelle (Jeremey) Deangelis, Melissa (Justin) Abney; Katherine King, Joseph King, Kristin Weyde, Michael Weyde; and four great-grandchildren, Hailey, Owen, Jocelyn, and Rylee. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen King and Mary “Mamie” (Smith) King.

Friends and neighbors may gather from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2018 at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. Visitation will resume Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, after which we will leave in procession to the 10 a.m. Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1407 N Richmond Rd. , McHenry, IL 60050.

Interment will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
