Obituary for Frankie Smith Obituary For Frankie Coghlan Smith September 14, 1930 – September 15, 2018 Family and friends of Frankie Smith are celebrating her remarkable life. Frankie passed away peacefully in her home a few minutes after midnight with family surrounding. She was 88 years and 14 minutes old.

Frankie was born to Hiram and Annie Coghlan of Laurel, the last of four children. She attended Laurel schools and graduated from George S. Gardnier High School. She had a beautiful child-like faith in Jesus and we will see her again.

Frankie began working at Reliance Manufacturing Company in the early 50’s as a secretary, alongside her beloved sister Katherine. Her organizational and office skills opened employment opportunities at the MS State Unemployment Office and she later retired after 22 years of service at the MS State Department of Heath as a Clerical Supervisor over the lower 9 counties. Frankie and her ex-husband, Jerry, owned and operated the Laurel Skating Rink in the 60’s and 70’s.

She cherished and nurtured the many wonderful memories and friendships of so many people. Frankie was a talker and a storyteller. She will always be remembered for the “Belinda, the Pink Fairy” stories which have spanned 5 generations.

Frankie was a talented seamstress and will be remembered for her amazing sense of style. She was happiest when hosting family holiday gatherings and was a wonderful cook. Frankie is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Katherine (John) Williams, Otto Coghlan, and baby brother James Bernice; Her ex-husbands, James Wyatt Lewis and Walton Jerry Smith.

Frankie is survived by her only child, Mary Katherine (Paul) McKnight; granddaughters, Melissa (Tony Jr.) Lavey and Emily Clemens; great grandchildren, Erin and Ethan Lavey and Morgan, Mady, and Colby Bogolin; great great granddaughter, Amira Rayne Badon. God blessed her with 5 generations. Nieces and nephews, Barbara, John Jr. and David Williams; Debbie, Joey (Jennie) Coghlan; Jennifer (Bill) Eddins and our Virginia and Monroe families.

A host of other loved ones, especially Danny Bogolin. Special appreciation to beloved nephew, friend, debate partner, and primary caregiver, David. Niece, Debbie (partner in crime and travel companion).

Loving Care Sitter Service, especially Tammy Stockman who cared for Frankie with utmost love and compassion. Pallbearers will be David Williams, Joey Coghlan, Tony Lavey Jr., Danny Bogolin, Ethan Lavey, Scott Coghlan, and Colby Bogolin. Services will be at Memory Chapel in Laurel on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 with visitation at 1:00 p.m. and service at 2:00 p.m. If you have bling, wear it in honor of Frankie.
