Obituary for Betty Mulloy Betty Mulloy, 93, of Laurel, died Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at her residence. Miss Mulloy was born September 23, 1924 in Laurel, Mississippi. Her parents were Richard Edward Mulloy and Eunice Stratton Mulloy both early citizens of Laurel.

Two sisters, Florence Lee Mulloy Hennier and Sarah Mulloy Ashmore preceded her in death. A graduate of Mississippi State College for Women, Miss Mulloy lived for many years in New Orleans working in the advertising field. Later she earned a Master Degree in Library and Information Science at Louisiana State University.

After working several years as a professional librarian in New Orleans, Miss Mulloy returned to Laurel and accepted a position as librarian at the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art. She remained actively involved in retirement, serving as a member of the museum board and a member of the Laurel Arts League. Miss Mulloy also served several terms on the Board of Trustees of the Laurel-Jones County Library.

An avid reader with a keen interest and enthusiasm for travel, Miss Mulloy combined the two by visiting places mentioned in favorite novels and histories. She made many trips to England and Europe and spent most summers in Highlands, North Carolina, accompanied by friends and relatives. Miss Mulloy is survived by five nieces, Ann Mulloy Ashmore, Cleveland, Mississippi, Helen Rae Hennier Watts, Woodlands, Texas, Lee Ashmore, Edina, Minnesota, Mary Ashmore Watts, Carlsbad, California, and Susan Hennier, Houston, Texas.

She is also survived by two nephews, Richard Hennier, Dalton Georgia and John Ashmore, Annapolis, Maryland and 14 great and great-great nieces and nephews. A memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church in Laurel is being planned for October. Details about the service will be announced at a later date.
