Obituary for Larry Dean Welborn, Sr Larry Dean Welborn, Sr of Laurel, MS, born October 26, 1943, passed away September 5, 2018 at approximately 6:00 p.m. at Forrest General Hospital. He attended Shady Grove School, The University of Southern Mississippi with a BSBA degree, Tulane University with a MBA, and many Military Colleges to include Command and Staff College. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Shady Grove where he served as a Deacon.

He was an active member of the Gideons, and also a member of the Masons, and Shriners. Currently Retired Lieutenant Colonel from the US Army with 23 years of service, he served in Vietnam War, Korean Peninsula, Office of The Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon, and duty locations all around the world. He received numerous awards while serving to include Bronze Star for combat service in Vietnam, Defense Meritorious Medal, Army Meritorious Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and several service ribbons.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golfing, hunting, and fishing. Mostly he loved being a huge supporter of all of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. Preceded in death by his father Paul Burney Welborn and mother Velmaz Lowe Welborn, he is survived by his wife of 53 years Judith Selman Welborn; his three children, Donna (Lane) Simmons of Petal, MS, Larry Dean (Christie) Welborn, Jr of Ellisville, MS, Debbie (Sammy) Mansell of Laurel, MS; grandchildren Drew Barefoot, Cassidy Simmons, Brady Simmons, Cody (Kaitlyn) Donald, Kayla Donald, Kaitlyn Welborn, Andy Donald, Chaz Welborn, Opal Welborn, Morgan Mansell, and Sam Mansell; great grandchild Winter Rose Donald; sisters Gwen (Jim) Ward of Gulfport, MS, Linda (Roger) Hobbs of Foley, AL; brothers Paul (Peg) Welborn of Gaithersburg, MD, Jerdon (Brenda) Welborn of Laurel, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel, MS from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Shady Grove of Laurel, MS. Last respects will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the church with burial to follow at the church cemetery.
