Obituary for Leslie Sullivan Butler Few people lived a more exemplary and meaningful life than Leslie Sullivan Butler of Mize. She passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018, at her home surrounded by family. Leslie was a strong person, even at birth, weighing 1 ½ pounds born to Elias and Fannie Sullivan.
She was the first of nine infants to survive. Leslie’s determination and will to live continued throughout her ninety-six years. Leslie enjoyed poetry, gardening, and cooking.
She had an open-door policy and insisted that anyone who visited her home share a meal. Friends and family often requested her famous chicken and dumplings. Honest, kind, and hardworking, Leslie was a well-respected and loved member of the community.
Along with her husband, J. B., she spent many years running a country store, raising six children and devoting many years to Taylorsville Manufacturing as a clothing inspector. Leslie was a dedicated Christian and delighted in reading and studying the Bible. Her favorite pastime was playing beloved hymns.
Because of Leslie’s love for music and Christ, she served as pianist at Providence Baptist Church in Mize until the age of 92. Leslie will be remembered for her unending devotion to family and friends, abundant kindness, unmatched hospitality, and gentle spirit. Leslie was preceded in death by her parents, Elias and Fannie Sullivan; her husband, J. B. Butler; her sister, Lennie Thornton of Richland; and her son-in-law, Bobby Bradshaw of Polkville.
