Gary Lewellen June 21, 1945 – February 11, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Gary Lewellen of Crawfordsville passed away Monday morning at Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was 73. Gary served his country honorable in the U. S. Army.

He entered in Oct. 1963 and did basic training at Ft. Knox.

He served seven years and seventeen days, discharged as staff sergeant E-6. In the states he was at Ft. Knox and Ft.

Bragg. He was overseas three times, in Germany from 64 to 66, Korea in 67 and 68 and Viet Nam in 1969 and 1970. He earned accommodation medals, good conduct medals, a national defense service medal, Army overseas medal and two Viet Nam medals.

He was a life member of the VFW in Crawfordsville. Born June 21, 1945 in Crawfordsville he was the son of Arnold Lewellen and Cozetta Irene Ward Lewellen Coates. He worked several places over the years and had several friends.

Surviving family includes his sister, Judy Smith of Lafayette and several nieces and nephews. A gathering to remember and celebrate the life of Gary Lewellen will be held Sunday, Feb. 17 from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 West Wabash Avenue, Crawfordsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Honor Guard, 101 Walter Remley Drive, Crawfordsville, IN 47933. Online condolences may be made at www. BurkhartFH.com.
