George “Sonny” Wesley Walker II, 71, of Camden went to be with the Lord at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 in the comfort of his own home under the compassionate care of WVU Hospice. Sonny was born in Weston on July 10, 1947 a son of the late George Wesley Walker and Imogene Lida Turner Walker. On August 7, 1967 he married Laretta “Dianne” Woofter and they shared just over 51 beautiful years together.

His witty and hardworking nature will be carried on by two children: Charles Gregory Walker and wife, Mary Riley, of Weston, and Buffy Jean Haney and husband, Chad Radford, of Lexington, NC; two grandchildren: Meagan Rory Walker, and Cameron Walker Haney; one brother, Joseph Leon Walker and wife, Lee Ellen, of Weston; and a loyal friend and beloved cat, Willie. Sonny was a 1965 graduate of Weston High School. He began working as guard at the Weston State Hospital before spending 37 ½ years of service with EQT.

George was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church as well as Knights of Columbus, Weston Council #1415. His faith and kind heart led him into the service of others as a volunteer with the Weston Fire Department. Making the most of living in Almost Heaven, Sonny loved being outdoors while raising a garden, fishing, deer hunting and turkey hunting.

He shared this passion with others by being a Hunter Safety Instructor for over 20 years, as well as helping hunters who were physically challenged. Sonny’s request for cremation has been honored. Friends and family will gather at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home 144 Hackers Creek Rd.

in Jane Lew from 10-11 a.m. on Friday September 7, 2018. A Catholic Memorial Rite will follow from the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Father James DeViese Jr. officiating. The Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored and privileged to serve the family of George “Sonny” Wesley Walker II.
