Judy Borus Edwards, 83, of 338 Main Avenue in Weston, passed away on October 30, 2018 at Colonial Place in Elkins where she had been under their compassionate care for the past four years. She was born on December 17, 1934 in Webster, MA. She was the daughter of the late Felix and Rose (Cazeault) Borus.
In December of 1958 Judy began her 59-year marriage to Gene H. Edwards, Jr., who survives. Judy is also survived by one son, Gene Hoffman Edwards, III and wife, Lynn, of Norfolk, VA; one daughter, Jill Brewster Staton and husband, Ty of Hanover, MD; three grandchildren: Thomas, Jacob and Tyleen Staton; one brother, Robert Borus and wife, Ruth, of Webster, MA; one sister-in-law, Anne Brewster Byrdy of Olney, MD; two nephews: Ted Byrdy and wife, Crystie, of Olney, MD, and Chris Byrdy and wife, Mary Beth, of Bristow, VA; one niece, Jennifer Gilbert and husband, Ben, of Milford, MA; seven great nieces and nephews: Ted, Michael, Matthew and Andrew Byrdy, Kaitlin and Charlotte Byrdy, and Everleigh Gilbert; and one special friend, Jane Jewell. Judy graduated as a nurse practitioner with a specialty in Dermatology in the 1977 class of University of Maryland.
She returned to University of Maryland Health Center in College Park, MD, to practice her specialty. Judy was also a registered nurse with Children’s Hospital, Washington, DC and Vincent Palotti Hospital, Morgantown, WV. In 1993, Judy retired and relocated to Weston, WV with her husband.
Judy enjoyed many activities. She was an avid bird watcher, world traveler and gardener. She was a member of the Weston Garden Club for many years and later the President of the organization.
During her tenure as President of the Garden Club, Judy was instrumental in securing the funding and placement of the Veterans Memorial Plaque at the Lewis County Park. Judy’s father was killed in action during World War II, so she knew first hand the sacrifices made by the military and their families. For this reason, Veterans were always close to her heart and her favorite charities were the organizations that honored our veterans.
She was most active with the Lewis County Honor Guard and the Mountaineer Military Museum. Judy was a gracious, kind and giving person whom many regarded as their own special friend. She embraced life with curiosity, enthusiasm and a loving heart.
Her husband and family have honored Judy’s request to be cremated and plan to hold a celebration of her life at a later date. Those individuals interested in attending are encouraged to contact Gene Edwards directly. In the meantime, if you wish to make a donation in Judy’s memory, the family requests that you consider: Lewis County Honor Guard, 144 Crane Camp Road, Walkersville, WV 26447 OR Mountaineer Military Museum, 345 Center Ave.
, Weston WV 26452. The Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service located at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew is honored and privileged to serve the family of Judy Borus Edwards.
