Earl Cleo Peters, 92, of Burnsville passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018 following an extended stay at Genesis Glenville Center. He was born in Sand Fork on April 8, 1926 the son of the late Albert and Dorothy McHenry Peters. Earl was preceded in death by his first wife, and the mother of his children, Lena Persinger Peters in 1987.

On July 7, 2013 he married his current wife Arbutus Ann Collins and they shared five wonderful years of marriage. Left to remember his intelligent and sociable character are three sons: Kenneth Peters and wife, Jennifer, of Valley Chapel, Steve Peters and Janie of Weston, and David Peters of Glenville; one daughter-in-law, Tonya Peters of Sand Fork; two step-sons: Rob Lowther and wife, Sally, of Glenville, and David Sims and wife, Leslie, of Parkersburg; Eleven grandchildren: Tracy, Mark, Stephen, Christopher, Christine, Greg, Jay Jay, Dusty, Allyson, Jordyn and Dalton; six step-grandchildren: Barbie, Tommy, Larry, RaeAnna, Josh and Mackenzie; seven great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert Lynn Peters of Bedford, OH; and one sister, Betty Phillips of Twinsburg, OH. In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by one son, John Michael “Mike” Peters in March of 2018; one brother, Jim Peters; five half siblings: Alton and Alfred Peters, Alma Collins, Arlene Peters and Delma Ford; one step daughter, Greta Hyre; and his loyal companion and beloved dachshund, Bo.

Earl graduated from Sand Fork High School class of 1944. He worked for over 35 years as a well tender for Pennzoil. As a 50 year member of the Gilmer County Masonic Lodge #118, he was a thirty-second degree Scottish Rite Mason.

Earl was also a member of the St. John’s Commandery No. 8 Knights Templar in Weston. He loved to fish and treasured his time spent with family on their vacations in the Smokey Mountains.

Family and friends will gather at Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service located at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew from 3-6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2018. Funeral Services will be held at 6 p.m. from the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brian Groves officiating.
