Bernard “Bernie” Eugene Posey. 64 of Jane Lew, WV, passed away January 6, 2019, in Clarksburg, WV. Bernie was born on February 9, 1954 in Lewis County, WV to the late James Oliver and Clara Jane Burkhammer Posey.
From 1975 to 1979, Bernie served his country in the United States Navy. Shortly after returning home from his tour of duty, Bernie met Debra Kay Riffle while playing cards with friends. The two were married December 9, 1983 and recently celebrated 35 years of marriage.
Along with his wife, Debbie, Bernie is survived by sons: Roger Bean of Lost Creek, Larry Bean II and fiancé, April Roby, and Anthony Posey, all of Jane Lew; grandchildren; Lura, Taylor, Jacob and Braydon Bean, Kaden Cuppett, and Isaac Posey; great-grandchildren; Braxton Bean and Emma Critchfield; sisters: Deborah Arce and husband, Carlos, and Carol Posey; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Those he will be joining in Heaven are: his parents; great-grandson, Benjamin Dotson; brothers: Francis and Ed Posey; and sisters: Beatrice Posey, Jean Radcliff and Martha “Maggie” Rowan. Bernie liked the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting and he and his boys spent many hours with their lines in the water of West Fork River.
Oddly enough, the Navy Veteran and fisherman never learned to swim. To say that Bernie was a mechanic was an understatement. He loved cars.
He ran his own garage in Weston for over 15 years. Even in his off hours Bernie was often taking calls from friends and explaining how to fix their cars. When he wasn’t fixing cars for a living or as a favor, Bernie could be found working on his own hot rods such as his 1967 RS/SS Camaro or his 1971 Chevy Nova.
He also liked to spend time at the races or mud bogs. Bernie loved his family and the time that he spent with them. He especially adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bernie had a very special friend named Buddy, and that little Chihuahua went everywhere with him. When Bernie put his hat on, Buddy was ready to go. They especially enjoyed driving Debbie home from work.
