Hile, 93, of Columbia City died at 9:20 a.m. Saturday, January 26 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City where she had been resident for the past month. She was born March 22, 1925 in Noble County, Indiana a daughter of the late Gustan and Irma (Keister) Knafel. Her formative years were spent in Noble County where she attended Cromwell High School.

She became an Avon District Manager retiring in 1990 with 29 years of service. On June 30, 1990, she was united in marriage to Dr. Verlin G. Hile. They have always made their home in Columbia City.

Dr. Hile died October 3, 2005. After retiring from Avon, she went to work for her husband at his dental practice in Columbia City. She is survived by her children, Richard (Carol) Oliver, Cromwell, Robert (Becky) Oliver, Noblesville, and Brenda Smith, Silver Lake; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Additionally, she was preceded in death four brothers, Gustan “Junior” Knafel, Donald Knafel, Woodrow “Woody” Knafel, and Franklin “Tank” Knafel and a sister, Charlene Trainer. A private funeral service will be held at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is at the Christian Chapel Cemetery in Merriam.

Memorials in Gladith’s honor are to the Alzheimer’s Association.
