Obituary for Harry J Shafer Harry J. Shafer, 72, of Phillipsburg, NJ, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at his home, with his loving family by his side. Harry was born in Wilson Borough, PA on March 24, 1945 to the late Harry F. and Elma E. Fehnel Shafer Harry was a diesel truck mechanic and welder, last working for Accurate Waste Systems of Lake Hopatcong, NJ. He attended Wilson High School.
Harry served his country in the US Navy during Vietnam on the Aircraft Carrier, USS Ranger. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR, and watching football. Harry was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Phillipsburg, where he was a member of the Men & Women of St. John’s and St. John’s Angels Relay for Life team.
Harry was also a member of Bernardine May American Legion Post #457 of Phillipsburg, NJ. Harry is survived by his wife of 50 years this past April, Judy Ward Shafer; son, Bryan Shafer and wife, Jeanette of Pohatcong Township, NJ; daughter, Melissa Kleedorfer and husband, Thomas of Forks Township, PA; granddaughters, Taylor Shafer and Brooke Shafer, both of Stewartsville, NJ; three brothers, Edwin of Forks Township, Frederick and his wife, Pat, of Palmer Township, and Larry and his companion, Loretta Curtis, of Kunkletown, PA; a sister Arlene Finken of Roseto, PA; sister-in-laws, Esther Shafer, Joyce Shafer and Nancy Shafer; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Carl, Howard, and Allan Shafer; and a sister, Mary Jane Ricker.
A Memorial Service for Harry will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 12pm at the Rupell Funeral Home, LLC; 465 Memorial Parkway; Phillipsburg, NJ 08865. A Visitation of Family and Friends will be held from 10am until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Arndt’s Cemetery in Forks Township, PA.
