Helen L. Williams, 72, of DeSoto, passed away at 1:57 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Helen was born on November 8, 1946, in Murphysboro, Illinois, to Willard Robert Lipe and Mary Elizabeth (Hooker) Lipe. She had been a certified nurse’s aid and a homemaker.

She was an amazing cook. Mrs. Williams was a member of Dutch Ridge Baptist Church of Pomona, where she had been Sunday School teacher a long time ago. Helen married John C. Williams on December 19, 1990, in DeSoto, and he survives.

Other survivors include two daughters and their husbands Leslie and Phillip Wallen of Carterville and Debra Williams-Buss and Meriah Buss of Herrin; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; two brothers Willard Lipe of Ballwin, MO and Glen Lipe of Carbondale; three sisters Joyce Lipe of Carbondale, Julia Lipe Murphysboro, and Kate Behrens of Carbondale; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers Dan, Jack and Robert Lipe, two nieces and one nephew, and her parents. Her body will be cremated and memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev.
