Hillary’s Obituary Hillary A. Bitting, age 82 of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 14, 2019 surrounded by his family at home. Born August 11, 1936 in Kansas City, MO, he was the only child of the late Hillary A. and Rachel K. (Shenk) Bitting. Hillary retired as a media specialist with the West Shore School District.

He also taught at Hershey Junior High School, Cumberland Valley High School and was a member and past President of the Capital Area Intermediate Unit. In addition to serving as an educator, Hillary was employed as a real estate agent with Howard Hanna in Camp Hill. Hillary was a graduate of Highspire High School, attended Lock Haven University and graduated from Shippensburg University where he received his Master’s Degree in Communications.

Hillary was an exceptional athlete excelling in baseball and basketball while attending college. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Mechanicsburg and the Pennsylvania State Employees’ Retirement System. He was a life member of the West Shore Elks and was a former member and past president of the Highspire Jaycees and Boro Council.

Hillary enjoyed coaching his daughter’s softball teams, bowling, boating, fishing, crabbing, cruising, traveling, and spending winters on Anna Maria Island in Florida but his greatest enjoyment came from being with his family. Hillary is survived by his wife Patricia M. (Laudenslager) Bitting, a son Mark H. Bitting and wife Michele all of Mechanicsburg; two daughters Kathy Powley and husband Michael of Fairfield, and Michele Rothfus of Enola; four grandchildren Kyle and Andrew Bitting, Macy and Paige Rothfus. Memorial services will be 12:00 PM Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 8 E. Keller St., Mechanicsburg.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM with an Order of Elks service beginning at 11:30 AM. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
