Obituary for Jack Wilhoit Strother Sr. Jack Wilhoit Strother, Sr. 106, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Community Hospice in Ashland. He was born October 8, 1912 in Grayson, Kentucky, the son of the late Wick Horton and Inez Wilhoit Strother. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Sparks Strother; one brother, Dr. Robert B. Strother, and two sisters, Louise S. Theobald and Inez Wick Loomis.

Mr. Strother is survived by a son, Jack (Celia) Strother, Jr. of Grayson; a daughter, Mimi Strother Stoops of Vero Beach, Florida; three grandchildren, Mark (Krista) Strother of Grayson, Lisa (Mark) Griffith of Union, KY, and Julie (Howard) Argo of Greenwood, DE: and six great-grandchildren, Matthew and Mary Kate Strother, Nathan and Wendy Griffith, and Jocelyn and Howard Argo. Mr. Strother was a lifelong Christian and a member of First Church of Christ of Grayson. He served as a Sunday school teacher, a deacon and elder, and was chairman of the elders for 22 years.

He was associated with The Commercial Bank of Grayson since his graduation from the University of Kentucky in 1933, serving as chairman of the board and president prior to his retirement. Mr. Strother was active in many local clubs, organizations, and community projects, and was a charter and lifelong member of the Grayson Rotary Club. Mr. Strother was a patriot and served with pride as the U.S. Naval officer in the South Pacific theatre during World War II.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, he was an avid supporter of all University of Kentucky teams. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson with Scott Ford and Tim Nischan officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be the elders of First Church of Christ. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday, November 3, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Ashland, KY or the First Church of Christ of Grayson.
