Obituary for William Raymond “Bill” Hayes Bill Hayes, 79, of Grayson passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018. He was born September 6, 1938, in Jacksonville, Ill. ; a son of the late William Elmer and Mabel Alice Jones Hayes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Ann Rose and Dorothy Mosher; four half-sisters, Kay Dodds, Bessie Wilks, Lena Gardali and Neomi Luttrell; four half-brothers, Lester Luttrell, Everett Hayes, Raymond Hayes and Delbert Hayes; and in-laws, Frank and Mary Goebel. Mr. Hayes was a member of the Goebel United Methodist Church until the church ceased to exist in 2011, and then attended First Baptist Church of Grayson. He proudly served his country with the United States Navy during the Cold War and Cuban Missile Crisis, where he successfully learned his electrical trade.

He was a journeyman electrician for Aristech Chemical Corporation. He was a 50-year member of Trimble Masonic Lodge #145 in Grayson. In addition to his wife of 56 years, Helen Goebel Hayes, he is survived by a daughter, Mary Alice (James) Powers of Ashland; a son, William R. II, (Sonnie Michelle) Hayes, of Grayson; three sisters, Judy Westerdahl of Moline, Ill.

, Carol Burgess of Winfield, Ala. , Darlene Pauls of Seaford, Va. ; six grandchildren, Michael (Emily) Powers, Kayla (Aaron) Snyder, Morgan Hayes (fiancé Stephen Cecconi), Makenzie Hayes, Maria Hayes and special foreign-exchange granddaughter Danielle Bressiani, of Brazil; six great-grandchildren, Bailey Powers, Adyson Powers, Ethan Murphy, Tinsley Snyder, Brevin Snyder and Logan Day; and a special uncle, Harold Jones of Jacksonville, Ill.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 27, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Grayson, Josh Schmidt, minister. Burial will follow in the East Carter County Memory Gardens with Masonic Rites by Trimble Lodge #145 and Military Honors by Kenova American Legion #93. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Sunday, August 26, from 5-9 p.m. at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Grayson, 162 North Court Street, Grayson, KY 41143. Online condolences at www.
