Jay Messer, 89, passed away July 10, 2018 at Life Care Center, Raynham, surrounded by family. He was the husband of the late Louise (Wingren) Messer. Jay was born March 31, 1929 to the late Matt & Eva Mae Messer in Hamilton, Ohio.

He was educated at West Elkton School in Ohio. He enlisted and served proudly in the US Navy from 1947-1951 during the Korean War and was part of the boxing team. He lived in Brockton and worked for the Eastern Edison Company for 30 years.

Jay moved to West Bridgewater , where he resided for several years before moving to Gilman, VT. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing basketball and softball (which he played until 60 years of age) and enjoyed playing golf in the Eastern Edison Golf league. He especially loved summer trips to New Hampshire with his family.

He attended Olivet Memorial Church and helped to plant Grace Alliance Church in Buzzards Bay. He recently attended House of Bread Church in Taunton when able. Jay was preceded in death by his loving wife Louise (Wingren) Messer; He is survived by daughters Deborah (Messer) Savage and her husband Jay; Melody Messer & Rebekah (Messer) Peterson and husband Wayne and son James Messer Jr and wife Erin; grandchildren Kristen, Marisa and Alyssa Savage; Gina and Brett Peterson; Jacob & Joseph Silver & Elouise Messer.

Great-grandchildren Cerissa, Noah & Gracie and many nieces and nephews. He was brother to his late sisters Agnes (Messer) Abner & Ruth (Messer) Mull; brothers Elisha Noe, Herschel, Harold & Ofard Messer. He is survived by sisters Beverly (Messer) Gillespie and Jeanette (Messer) Swartz of Ohio.

Service and burial will be private.
