James’ Obituary QUEENSBURY – James Clifford Fish, 82, of Queensbury, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 10, 2019, at his winter home, with his loving wife by his side. Born February 26, 1936, in Fort Edward, he was the son of Clifford and Gertrude (Holmes) Fish. After returning from the Army in 1956, he met and married Judith “Judy” Ringer on May 4, 1958, at St. Alphonsus Church in Glens Falls.

As a longtime business owner, he first opened Jim’s Gun Shop in 1973, which he operated from his den. Later in 1980, he established Jim’s Glass Service out of his garage. He coined the phrase “Thanks For The Break” and began a legacy which filled him with great pride.

With his son David, the business grew into a family business and is now being operated by the third generation. After retirement, Jim and his wife enjoyed traveling extensively in their motor home, eventually settling in Florida for the winters. Jim enjoyed being involved in the community and belonged to many organizations over the past 55 years.

While raising a family, he served as Cub Master for the Cub Scouts Pack 16 and was a volunteer fireman for the West Glens Falls Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW and served as Post #6196 President for a number of years. As an avid gun hobbyist, he was a member of the Hudson Falls Fish & Gun Club and the Imperial Polk Gun Club in Winter Haven, FL.

In his spare time, he loved to play cards, meet friends for coffee and drive his antique cars & motorcycles. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Throughout his life, he was always willing to lend a helping hand, especially to those in need.

People best describe him as being a special guy, very kind and generous, and he will be greatly missed by those who knew him. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his son, David James Fish Sr.; his great-grandson, Lucas James Fish; a twin brother, Jeremiah “Jerry” (Linda) Fish; and sisters, Marie (Harold) Robillard and Linda (Wray) Longdaue. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Judy; daughter, Jamie Fish (Christopher) Parrotte; daughter-in-law, Laurie W. Fish; grandchildren, Joshua (Theresa) Fish, Joel (Kristine) Fish, David J. Fish II, Danielle Fish and Delainey Dowling; step-grandchildren, Tristan and Keegan Parrotte; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Reagan, Haleigh, Peyton and Brielle Fish; sisters, Annette Brockway (Mark) and Elizabeth Vicioso; in-laws, William (Laurene) Ringer and Michael Ringer (Jeanette Bristol); also several nieces, nephews, cousins, the Jim’s Glass family and friends.

Calling hours will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home, with Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fort Edward, officiating.

The family would like to extend an invitation to a gathering at the VFW Post #6196, 32 Luzerne Road, Queensbury, immediately following the service. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the C.R.
