James Wesley Witherow April 29, 1936 – February 22, 2019 Share this obituary Upload Photo| Sign Guestbook James Wesley Witherow, 82 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Friday, February 22, 2019, at New Life Hospice Residence Center following a lengthy illness. Jim was born April 29, 1936, in Pittsburgh, PA where he was raised and lived until after his marriage to Donna Grace Sutton. They moved to Elyria in 1964, and lived there until they made their home in Amherst in 1998.

Jim retired from the Elyria Public School system in 1995 after thirty years of service. He taught sixth grade and was a high school guidance counselor at Elyria High School. Jim received his Bachlor and Master’s Degree in Education from Kent State University.

He loved business and investing in the stock market. Pets dogs where always a big part of this life. He was a member of Elyria United Methodist Church.

In his spare time, he enjoyed all things baseball. He was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and often traveled to their spring training. He was active with his sons in their little league games as a coach as well as a fan.

He will be greatly missed by his family. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of fifty-eight years Donna Grace Witherow (nee: Sutton) his sons James “Scott” (Ann) Witherow of Columbus; Todd Sutton (Dorothy Russo) Witherow of Framingham, MA; three granchildren Matthew, Mason, and Paige Witherow; his sister-in-law Jeanne Lang of Hudson, NH; as well as cherished nieces and nephew. Jim was preceded in death by his parents James and Ethel Witherow (nee: Whittaker).

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 2, 2019, from 10 a.m. until Noon at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave. , Amherst. Services will be held privately by the family.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Rd. , Lorain, OH 44053. For those unable to attend please visit the funeral home’s website to share a memory and sign the guest register, www.
