Obituary of James Maness James L. Maness Star – James Lee Maness, age 76, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018, at his residence. Mr. Maness was born in Montgomery County on October 10, 1941 to Jesse Brown and Mary Esther (Hurley) Maness. He graduated from Star High School and attended Wingate College and North Carolina State University.

He was employed as a logger with Crooked Pine Inc. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Yow Maness; granddaughter, Sascha Hoffmann; sister, Nancy Gruber; and brother, Charles Maness. He is survived by four daughters, Sonya Hardy (Jerry) of Walkertown, Catherine Keating (P.J.) of Star, Jennifer Boyle (Jeff) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Cynthia Gardner (Britt) of Star; ten grandchildren; and 1 great-granddaughter. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 17, 2018 from 2:00 – 3:45 pm at Suggs Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

The graveside service will begin at 4:00 pm at Suggs Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Charles Flishman officiating.
