Obituary for Joan Marie Burke Joan Marie Burke, 79, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018 Born on May 5, 1939 in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Howard Harder and Ann Harder. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John Edward Burke, her son John Kevin Burke: two daughters Megan and Colleen and wife Carolyn, her son Brian Howard Burke and his two children Kyle and Avery and her daughter Karen Burke Aschbrenner, her two children Jake and Jenna and husband Jeff Aschenbrenner. Joan spent the last 25 years retired and living in a golfing community in Hendersonville.

She made many lasting memories with her friends in Cummings Cove and enjoyed golfing, lunching, and going on trips. Joan was very organized and used her talents to coordinate many fun activities. Always up for a trip to any location, she was a joy to be around.

She was a devoted wife and mother. Her happiest times were spent with her children and grandchildren. The impact she made on their lives will live on forever.

Her holiday traditions and love for life will be missed. Instead of a service, Joan has chosen to have a private ceremony with her family at her favorite place-Litchfield Plantation, Pawley’s Island, SC. Joan requested that any donations in her memory be made to Camp CARE.

Camp CARE provides a summer camp and year round activities to children who have or have had cancer. The Burkes have supported this cause for many years after their granddaughter Jenna was diagnosed with cancer and lost her eye to the disease. Camp CARE is fully funded by donation.
