17, 1939, in Jefferson County, she was the daughter of Frank L. Littleton and Mattie V. (Redmond) Littleton. She was a devoted and loving homemaker. She was of the Lutheran faith.

In her younger years, JoAnn volunteered in children’s sports and other activities; as well as volunteered at Ranson Elementary School. She was a “nanny” and “mom” to many generations of friends. She is survived by her daughter, Jody L. Penwell, of Ranson; daughters-in-law, Schelley Penwell and Ronda Penwell; grandchildren, Amber Hockman and husband Joe, Jeremy, Michael, Amanda Anderson and husband AJ, Chris, Jessica and Tyler; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Isaiah, Trenton, Mason and Rayana; sister, Brenda Smith and husband, Glenn, of Troutman, North Carolina; nieces, Jennifer and Melissa; numerous cousins; and all her furry children, which were always laying with her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Edward A. “Mann” Penwell, who died Jan. 24, 2008; sons, Michael L. “Mikey” Penwell and Edward A. “Bucky” Penwell; and grandson, Zachary A. Penwell. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan.

26, 2019, at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, with Dr. Henry Christie officiating. Interment will be at Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
