Joe Richard Sanchez passed away peacefully January 6, 2019 at the University of Utah Hospital into his heavenly home, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born on January 17, 1960 in Farmington, NM to Joe Ben and Margaret Atocha Sanchez. He was raised in Sunset, UT and attended Clearfield High School.

During his younger years he tended his siblings whom he had a very special relationship with. He loved the company of friends and family and was known as the life of the party. He would always light up the room with his warm smile and inviting personality.

Joe married Cindy Gabaldon on October 3, 1980, and from their marriage they were blessed with Sean and Ashley. They later divorced in January of 1990. He then met the love of his life, Ronda and simultaneously welcomed his youngest son, Tyler.

After spending many years together, Joe and Ronda were officially married on August 12, 2000 and supported one another to the end. Joe began his career at the Smiths Distribution Center in July of 1992, where he provided many faithful years of service up unto his passing. In his free time, he was an avid outdoorsman who embraced God’s creation to its fullest.

He loved fishing, hunting, camping, and the occasional lookout for Sasquatch with his wife and kids by his side for many fun-filled adventures. He was often working on someone’s vehicle and was an all-around handy man. He continued to fill his life with many years of love and laughter, as his door was always open to his friends and family.

Joe was the ultimate host. He many times had a pot of posole, fresh salsa, and a cold beer waiting with good music rolling in the background. He loved to eat.

With his two hollow legs, he had the great fortune of packing it away, and always with a side of jalapeños. Joe had the most tender and loving heart. He would truly give you the shirt off his back, this may be why he never had one on.

Joe is survived by his father Joe Ben Sanchez, wife Ronda, siblings: Jonney (Gloria), Teresa (Mike), Children: Sean (Chandra), Ashley (Robert), Tyler (Whitney) and granddaughter Addison. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Toby Martinez and Antonia Mestas, Benito and Elaria Sanchez.

His beloved mother, Margaret Atocha Sanchez, father-in-law Sheldon Gillespie, and mother-in-law Lousie Gillespie. We would like to extend a special note of appreciation to the outstanding doctors, nurses and staff members of the University of Utah Neuro Critical Care Unit for their professional and genuine care they offered during his final days. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Myers Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West Roy, Utah, with a viewing prior to the services 9:00 – 11:00 AM.
