Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 31, 2019, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Rooks Funeral Home, 109 West White Road in Byron. Funeral service will be held at 3:00PM on Friday, February 1, 2019, at Byron United Methodist Church, 103 West Heritage Boulevard, with Pastor Tim Sizemore officiating.

Burial will follow in Byron City Cemetery. Born in Byron to the late J. C. and Polly Mathis, Bubber proudly served in the United States Air Force and was retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base. He had volunteered as a baseball coach with the Peach County Recreation Department and enjoyed riding motorcycles with his friends.

His most favorite thing was being “Daddy Bubber” to his grandchildren that he loved more than anything else in the world. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Sandy Mathis; his sons, Cliff Mathis (Dee) of Forsyth and Brett Mathis (Amy) of Byron; grandchildren, Natalie, Damien, Kayson, Maliyah, and Isaiah; sister, Shirley Mosely (Gary) of Byron; and a nephew, Bob Burnette of Byron. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in honor of Bubber to your favorite charity.

Rooks Funeral Home in Byron is in charge of arrangements.
