John G Dettore , June 24, 1930 — October 31, 2018

John G. Dettore, 88, of Vandergrift passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 in his home. Born June 24, 1930 in Vandergrift, he was a son of the late Nunzio and Maria (LeDonne) Dettore. John was a 1949 graduate of Vandergrift High School and lived in Vandergrift all his life.

John was a lector, and integral part of the Men’s Club and Knights of Columbus. He served on the spaghetti dinner committee, as an offertory teller, and on the 100th Anniversary of St. Gertrude’s committee. John helped decorate the church for the Holy Days, and watered the flowers outside of church.

John was a life member and longtime secretary of the Vandergrift Lions Club, and Lions Club International, where he was the recipient of the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship. He was a Charter Member of The Festa Italiana di Vandergrift Committee. John was a social man with a kind heart, known for his walks around Vandergrift.

He was always willing to lend a helping hand. John loved spending time with his family, enjoyed the companionship of his nieces, and adored his Australian Cattle Shepherd, Bella. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Alfred and Armand Dettore and a sister, Edith A. Maglocci.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews; Christine (Joseph) Penta of Washington Township, Nancy Tarella of Vandergrift, Robert (Tasha) Maglocci, Jr. of Columbia MD and a great niece, Maya Maglocci also of Columbia MD. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 1:00-5:00pm in the Brady-Curran Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 429 Franklin Avenue, Vandergrift. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with Father James Loew, OSB as celebrant.

Private burial in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Vandergrift. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, 303 Franklin Avenue, Vandergrift PA 15690 or a charity of one’s choice in John’s memory.
