Obituary of John Alvarado John F. Alvarado, 87, Marion, passed away at 2:22 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at Wesleyan Health Care Center in Marion. He was born in Marion on March 31, 1931, and was the son of Mary (Ruiz) Alvarado. John was married to Norma Jean (McDaniel) Alvarado, who preceded him in death in 2005.

John served his country in the U.S. Army (3½ years) and in the U.S. Navy (4 years), and he was proudly decorated with the Purple Heart award. Following his military service, he worked for 30½ years as a crane hooker, as well as a tool and die maker, at General Motors in Marion. There were many accomplishments in John’s life but none greater than that of his family.

He was very family-oriented, and they meant everything to him. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Mary (Danny) Loftis, Marion, and RaeJean Alvarado; special niece, Stacy (Brent) Bell, Noblesville; grandsons, Johnathan Loftis and Jacob Furnish; special great-niece and great-nephew, Bryana Bell and Ryan Bell; sisters, Eva Sandoval and Mary Phillips; the Murphy family; and special friend, Tom Barnes and daughter from Georgia. In addition to his mother and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Joseph, and sisters, Pauline, Janie, Barb, and Betty.

Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave. , Marion, IN. Immediately following the time of visitation, John’s funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Gary Ashbrook officiating.

Burial will follow at Thrailkill Cemetery in Swayzee. Memorial contributions may be directed to Marion-Grant County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1921, Marion, IN 46952. Online condolences may be made at www.
