Obituary of Lawrence “Larry” Colyer Lawrence “Larry” E. Colyer, age 78, Jonesboro, was surrounded by his family when he went to be with the Lord at 10:35 p.m. on Monday, February 25, 2019, at University Nursing Center in Upland. Born in Gas City on December 20, 1940, Larry was a lifelong resident of Grant County and was raised on the family farm. He was the son of Lawrence C. and Phoebe (Malott) Colyer.

Larry graduated from Mississinewa High School, and he married Sharon Mclain on June 3, 1961. They had three children: Melody, Joe, and Michael. Sharon preceded him in death on June 30, 1997.

Larry then married Joyce Banks on April 4, 1998, and she survives. Larry retired from General Motors, where he was a pipe fitter/skill trades. He enjoyed hunting, old tractors, and watching his grandchildren’s ballgames and many other activities.

He also enjoyed having coffee at Jackie’s Restaurant with his friends, as well as going to his church at Jonesboro Friends, of which he was a lifetime member. He will be remembered as easy-going, very loving, sweet, always giving hugs, and one who never met a stranger. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; children: Melody (Kris) Leckron, Fairmount; Michael (Diann) Colyer, Gas City; JoAnn (Rex) Maynard; Dennis (Becky) Banks; and David (Patti) Banks; daughter-in-law, Trisha Colyer, Gas City; grandchildren, Jacob Leckron, Kailey (Jacob) Whitenack, Heather Oatis, Tyler Colyer, Justin (Hannah) Colyer, Sam Colyer, Jessica (Josh Whitaker) Colyer, Sunny Colyer, Daniel Vandiver, Tony Vandiver, Amy (Chad) Nicolai, Stephanie Auler, Staci (Nick) Vetor, Brandon Banks, Brooke (Josh) Richardson, Kati (Ryan) Van de Putte, and Kelcie Banks; many great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law: Martha “Bunny” Colyer, SD; Janet Colyer, Gas City; Barbara Brown, Jonesboro; and Linda (Kevin) Kidwell, Marion.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Joe Colyer; sisters, Martha Stafford, Phyllis Keeling, and Anna Rose Rice; and brothers, Kenneth Colyer and Russell Colyer. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. Larry’s funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019, at Jonesboro Friends Church, 513 S. Water St., Jonesboro, IN, with Pastor Mark McKnight officiating.
