Larry Wayne Smith, age 70, of Cedar Bluff, VA passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2018 at this home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and was the son of the late Earnest Dempsey and Melba Louise Nipper Smith. Larry was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was a Richlands High School Class of 1967 graduate and was a US Army veteran serving during Vietnam. He was a former coal miner and later worked as an electrician for Quadrant Manufacturing in Wytheville, Virginia and was a lifelong resident of the area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jack “Buddy” Dempsey Smith.

He is survived by: His Wife of 49 years, Patricia Smith Daughters: Lara Kiser and husband, Steven of Pounding Mill, Virginia Kelly Vance and husband, David of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Grandchildren: Faith Kiser, Ryan Kiser and Addison Vance Sister: Mary Sue White of Williamsburg, Kentucky Brothers: Johnny Allen Smith and wife, Freda of Grayson County, Virginia Mark David Smith and wife, LeeAnn of Fayetteville, Tennessee Several nieces and nephews also survive along with a host of family and friends. Funeral services for Larry Wayne Smith will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Cody Harmon and Rev.

Phillip Horton officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Steve Kiser, David Vance, Daniel Tharp, James Vance, Josh Whitt, and David Lee Horton.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Ryan Kiser and Morris Kiser. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. The Smith family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
