Leda Deshler, November 21, 1925 — January 19, 2019

Leda Deshler, 93, of Lopatcong Township, Phillipsburg, NJ passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at her home. Leda was born in Phillipsburg on November 21, 1925, and was a daughter of the late Jacob B. and Ruth Cole Woehrle. Leda was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School, Class of 1943, and the former Trenton State Teacher’s College, now College of New Jersey, Class of 1947.

She was a teacher and department chairman in the former Washington High School, Washington, NJ, from September 1947 through December 1957 and was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, a national educational honor society. Leda was a member of Westminster Presbyterain Church since 1950, who, in earlier years, was active in church organizations serving as a deacon, a member of the Board of Christian Education and President of United Presbyterian Women. Having celebrated 35 years of marriage, her beloved husband, David B Deshler, died March 2003.

Two sisters, Ruth W. Schmidt and Elva W. Dicker; a brother, Robert S. Woehrle; and two nephews, Robert Schmidt and Bruce Dicker preceded her in death. Leda is survived by a son, David W. Deshler of North Carolina; a daughter, Lucene Caropreso of Phillipsburg; four grandchildren, Candance Deshler of South Carolina, David “Buddy” Deshler, Jr. of Virginia, Ben Caropreso of Phillipsburg, and Rachael Caropreso of Phillipsburg; a niece, Susan Schmidt Schultz and her husband Howard of Cinnaminson, NJ, who were like a daughter and son, and their children, Dawn Gonzolas (Josh) of Mount Laurel, Richard Schultz of Cinnaminson, and Heather Schultz of Cinnaminson. Honoring her request, there will be no calling hours.

Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Stewartsville Lutheran Cemetery. Rupell Funeral Home, LLC; 465 Memorial Parkway; Phillipsburg NJ have been entrusted with the arrangements.
