Obituary for Leola Ruth Erickson Leola “Lee” Ruth Erickson, 93, of Charlotte, died Thursday, September 13, 2018, at the Elmcroft Senior Living Center in Charlotte. Lee was born in San Benito, Texas, on July 26, 1925, the daughter of Harlow and Bernice Hill. She grew up there and she married Roland Erickson Jr on January 24, 1945.

She worked as an underwriter for Prudential Insurance Company. As a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force, Roland moved frequently around the country and they spent time in South Dakota as well as living in Chicago for almost 30 years. They came to Charlotte in 1987 to be closer to their only daughter, Lisa.

She enjoyed gardening and genealogy. Proud to be adventurous and independent, she also enjoyed some of the less common activities. From sailing a catamaran on the ocean, to flying stunts in an airplane, to riding around on her son-in-law’s Yamaha ATV, she loved to live life.

Most of all, she loved the time spent with family and friends and she will be missed by all who knew her. Lee is survived by her daughter, Lisa Turner (husband Andy); her granddaughter, Erin Hesbeens (husband Tim) and their daughters: Haley and Avery; her granddaughter, Kathy Turner; and her grandson Kevin Turner and his son, Cameron. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland, in November of 2012.

A memorial service honoring the life, love and blessing of Lee is being planned and will be held at Morning Star Lutheran Church. The date and time will be announced when finalized. Lee’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for her and for them.
