Mary L. Jenkins, 92, of Plum, formerly of Murrysville, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2018. She was born Mary F. Leonard in Richmond, VA on July 4, 1926 to Russell Leonard and Katherine Moore Leonard. Her mother, Katherine, died when she was 14 and she, as the oldest girl, became the homemaker for her father, brother Russell and sister Marjorie) while her father worked to keep the family financially sound.

In 1943 she graduated from John Marshall High School in Richmond, VA. Then, in 1947, she met and married Howard S. Jenkins, a 1941 mechanical engineering graduate of the University of Arkansas, from Gravette, AR. Howard was working for Carrier Corporation in Richmond at that time.

After several moves, following the job demands, Howard and Mary arrived in Pittsburgh in 1948 where Howard began working for Blaw-Knox. At the end of 1948, Stanley was born, followed by Carol in 1954 and Fred in 1960 while they resided in Penn Hills. In 1975, she, Howard, and Fred moved to Murrysville.

Her skills as a manager of the household were effectively employed throughout as she and Howard raised all three children and provided for each a college education (at Carnegie-Mellon University, University of Cincinnati, and Bob Jones University). After 34 of marriage, Howard died in 1981. She remained in Murrysville, developing new skills as an Avon representative.

Her oldest son, Stanley and his wife Anne, live nearby and looked after her through this time. In 2008, health difficulties arose and she was taken in by Stan and Anne. In 2014, she moved into Arden Courts in Monroeville, PA where her round-the-clock needs could be more effectively met.

The family joined First Reformed Presbyterian Church in 1965 and Mary remained a member, though unable to attend services for many years. Mary is survived by three children, L. Stanley (Anne) Jenkins of Plum, Carol E. Jenkins of Cicinnati, OH, and Frederick W. (Connie) Jenkins of Goose Creek, SC; and a sister, Marjorie Gunst of Richmond, VA. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Laura Greyshock, Sharon Dā€™ Alicandro and Joel Jenkins; and five great-grandchildren.

She is well-remembered and loved by her family and the FRPC congregation where a memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 7 PM. She will be interred beside her husband at Gravette Cemetery in Gravette, AR. Hart Funeral Home Inc., Murrysville entrusted with arrangements.
