Friday, January 11, 2019 at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin. Burial will be under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mickey Fritts, age 79, of Lawton Oklahoma died at her home on January 8, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Milton E. Fritts for 61 years. Born in Amorbach Germany, October 31, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Karl Klingenmeir and Emilia Schachner Klingenmeir.
After her education she met Milton who was stationed in Germany at an Army Base near Amorbach. They fell in love and began a relationship that soon led to marriage. The military sent them to duty stations across Germany and Italy.
They thoroughly enjoyed exploring Europe, which sparked their love of travel. Eventually they were stationed in Colorado Springs and this started a lifelong love for fishing, camping and being outdoors. Mickey was the consummate Military Wife, she always supported Milton in reaching his goals.
This helped him excel in his Army Career and his many other Professions. She was a gifted home maker and loved caring for her Family. She was an amazing cook and always took pride in keeping her home neat as a pin inside and out.
She was a wonderful mother and spent her life devoted to her children. After her children were raised and out of the home, she began the process of showering her grandchildren with love and support. She happily attended the many events that came with having 16 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mickey loved to travel and her interests took her all around the world. She always felt very fortunate to have led an incredibly adventurous life. Some of her greatest adventures seem like fairytales, but they really happened.
Mickey and Milton rode a boat down the Nile River and climbed inside King Tut’s Tomb. Overheated and exhausted, they both peered into the boy king’s sarcophagus; the ten other people in the group, one third their age couldn’t make the entire trip due to heat exhaustion and the steep climb, but Mickey and Milton did. Mickey and Milton enjoyed many happy times together traveling to every exotic location imaginable.
They traveled regularly with a large group of their friends jokingly referred to as the Whataburger Group. The group met for breakfast almost daily at Whataburger for over 10 years. From the Panama Canal, Paris, Moscow and the Beaches of Normandy, they had seen it all.
Time with her family and friends was the most important thing for Mickey and she never hesitated to include everyone in their excursions. She took her grandchildren on amazing trips all over Europe and the United States. However, large family meals and gatherings were a regular occasion that she probably enjoyed most of all.
She is survived by a Sister, Margaret Hicks of Lansing MI, a son, Robert K. Fritts and wife, Christina Fritts of Lawton, OK, a son, Tom Fritts and wife, Denise Fritts of Chattanooga, OK, a son, Jim Fritts and wife, Lanae Fritts of Lawton, OK, a son in law, Terry Smith of Edmond, OK, nine grandchildren, Robert K. Fritts II, Alan Smith, Cameron Smith, Bradley Fritts, Lauren Fritts Stone, Miranda Fritts, Jared Fritts, Mitchell Fritts, Madeline Fritts along with eight great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, extended family members and countless dear friends. She was predeceased by her Father, Joseph Klingenmeir, her Mother, Emilia Schachner Klingenmeir, three sisters, Gertrude, Paula, Tony, three brothers Hugo, Herman, and Albert, a grandson, Troy Duzan-Fritts and her daughter, Jackie Fritts Smith.
