Mittie’s Obituary Mrs. Mittie Essick Allen, 89, formerly of Rowe Road, died Monday, February 04, at Bermuda Commons in Advance where she had resided for the past two years. A funeral service will be held at 3pm Thursday, February 7 at Paul’s Chapel Evangelical and Reformed Church, by the Rev. Aaron Long.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends following the committal service. Mrs. Allen was born September 25, 1929 in Davidson County to Olin McKinley Essick and Delta Walser Essick.

She worked for Manhattan Shirt Factory and later retired from Duracell Battery. She was married to the love of her life for 64 years – Boyd Brice “Barney” Allen, now deceased. Her son, Anthony Brice Allen, and her three brothers, Billy, Ransom and Lorenza Essick, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Mike Allen and wife, Nanette, of Chapel Hill; her grandchildren, Dr. Lauren Raff and husband, Dr. Evan Raff of Chapel Hill, Casey Allen of Chapel Hill and Matthew Allen Wilmington; and her great-grandchildren, Lily and Michael Raff; her sisters, Myrtle Brandon and Clara Smith and husband Monroe, both of Lexington. For many years, she had a close relationship with a special nephew, Dempsey Essick and his wife Shelley, spoiling their children John and Beth like grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Paul’s Chapel Evangelical and Reformed Church, 2791 W. Center Street Ext.
