Nelson Houston Combs July 17, 1925 – January 01, 2019 Share this obituary Local Florists Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Nelson Houston Combs, age 93, of Baker, WV went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 17, 1925 in Rio, WV, he was the son of the late Lemuel Cyles Combs and Vallie May Miller Combs. Mr. Combs was a retiree of the WV Dept.

of Highways and a former logger. He was a devoted husband, caring father, and the greatest Pappy ever. He loved gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and neighbors.

He was a dedicated member of Zion Lutheran Church in Baker, WV and was active in the church and community. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, E. Virginia Combs, whom he married on September 5, 1945 in Gainesboro, VA. He is also preceded in death by one beloved daughter, Joan Regina Combs, and five brothers.

He is survived by a son, Danny Combs and wife Pati; three daughters: Diana Coffman and husband Douglas, Cheryl Mathias and husband Kevin, and Tammy Combs, devoted caregiver; five grandchildren: Jared Combs, Amanda Brill, Aaron Combs, Jessica Barnes, Angela Sisler; six great-grandchildren: Eli Combs, Bodie Brill, Simon Combs, Ian Brill, Vayda Combs, and Amelia Brill; and a sister, Virginia Michael of Augusta, WV. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. Zion Lutheran Church, Baker, WV with Pastor Gary Koontz officiating. Interment will be in Zion Cemetery, Baker, WV.

Friends will be received at McKee Funeral Home, Baker on Friday, January 4, from 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 225, Baker, WV 26801. All arrangements are being handled by McKee Funeral Home, Baker, WV.
