Mary Lou Skinner February 21, 1928 – February 24, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook Mary Lou Ritz Skinner, 91, of Augusta, WV went home to be with the Lord February 24, 2019 at her home surrounded by family and friends. Born on February 21, 1928 in New Castle PA, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Frank and Dorothy Filer Rity Burgan.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert B.Skinner, a brother, John S. Ritz and one sister, JoAnne Pulissen. She is survived by one brother, David H. Ritz of Grandbury Texas, her son, Glenn W. Skinner and his wife Shellmarie of Augusta WV, grandsons, Robert Theodore Skinner of Elkins WV and Derek Matthew Skinner of Augusta WV. Mary Lou was an Elementary School Teacher, earning her B.A. at Shepherd College, and did graduate studies at the University of Maryland and John Hopkins University.

She started her teaching career in Augusta WV around 1953 and continued at Washington County MD, Fort Worth TX and Howard County, MD before returning to Hampshire County and Augusta Elementary School in 1978 and retired in June 1990. She loved teaching L.D. students and the Gifted Program. She was an avid reader and loved books.

She was a member of the Augusta Church of Christ, but had attended the First United Methodist Church in Romney since the late 90’s. They, along with Mt. ZIion Methodist Church, supported her since she became home bound.

She loved to watch her son and grandsons play sports in the community and Hampshire Co. schools. She also enjoyed watching their academic successes and hobbies, such as their love of music. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Mt.

Zion Methodist Church, Augusta, WV with Allen Hott and Ted Heckert officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Augusta, WV.

Friends will be received from noon until time of service at the church. The family request that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Hampshire County Warm the Children, PO Box 496, Romney, WV 26757, The Romney Food Pantry at the Romney First United Methodist Church, or Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville WV 26847. All arrangements are being handled by McKee Funeral Home of Augusta.
