On October 11, 2003 he married Ruth “Arlene” Cayton who will miss him dearly after 14 years of marriage. His kind, hard working nature will be carried on by one son, Rickie Kerns and wife, Christy, of Grafton; two grandchildren: Maverick and Christian Kerns; three stepchildren: Wayne Simon and wife, Arienne, of Harrison City, PA, Becky McDaniels and husband, Matt, of Buckhannon, and Heather Pitzer and husband, Rich, of Jane Lew; six step grandchildren: Braeden and Caeley Simon, Shelby and Brody McDaniels, and Richard and Ryan Pitzer; three siblings: Margaret Rogers of Grafton, Blane Kerns and wife, Sandi, of Oil Fields, and Ronald Kerns and wife, Louise, of Grafton; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings: Robert Kerns, and Pauline Straley; and a brother-in-law, Ray Rogers.

Known to many of his friends as “Red Bird”, Dwayne worked as a self-employed truck driver most of his life, primarily hauling coal, steel, and rock, but retired from Shriver Trucking in Weston with several years of service. He was an avid Nascar fan, who cheered for Davey Allison or Ernie Irvan to take the checkered flag. While living in Paisely, FL for five years, he developed a love for the beach and enjoyed visiting as often as possible.

He loved to travel and had fond memories of vacationing with his wife in Branson, MO and at the Grand Canyon. He took great pride in maintaining his property, and providing for his family. Dwayne’s request for cremation has been honored and his family will gather for a private Graveside Service at the Broad Run Cemetery in Jane Lew.

The Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew is honored and privileged to serve the family of Norman “Dwayne” Kerns. Online condolences may be expressed at www.
