Peggy Chesson Rodenhizer Moore, 81, of 3441 Pleasant Gap Dr., Dry Fork, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at her residence after being in declining health for several months. Peggy was born in Danville, VA on August 21, 1937 daughter of the late James Chesson and the late Elizabeth Koger Chesson Amos. She spent all of her life in the Danville area where she retired from the Hylton Hall offices of Dan River Mills.
She was a member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church. On May 9, 1959, Peggy married Allen Rodenhizer who died on August 16, 1997. In addition to her parents and husband, her stepfather, Noel Amos, predeceased her.
Peggy was known for her kind and giving nature. After her health began to fail, her daughter wanted to offer the same love and support that her mother had given over the years. Deane and her husband Jerry welcomed Peggy into their home in November 2018.
She loved her new home and she and Suzy quickly settled into their new surroundings. The compassion and love for her mother goes beyond compare. Those who are left to endure the loss of Peggy include, daughter, Deane Riggins and husband Jerry of Dry Fork, VA; granddaughter Jennifer Dowdy and husband Jerry of Danville, VA; grandson, Larry Riggins and wife Beth of Newport News, VA; great grandchildren, Leah Dowdy, Emma Dowdy, Kaitlyn Riggins, and Abel Riggins; special daughters, Phyllis Moore and Beth Ferlan; numerous cousins, nieces, great nieces, nephews, and great nephews; sister-in-law, Betty W. Adkins; many lifelong friends; C.C. Moore and son Roger; her constant companion, Suzy; and all those who knew and loved Peggy.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Reverend Shane B. Ellis officiating. Interment will follow the service in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence, 3441 Pleasant Gap Dr. Dry Fork, VA 24549, on Monday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial donations be made to the Danville Area Humane Society at 996 South Boston Rd, Danville, VA 24540.
