Obituary for Richard E. “Rick” Vernon Richard E. “Rick” Vernon, age 74 of Raven, Virginia, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon, Virginia. Mr. Vernon was born on January 8, 1944 in Amonate, West Virginia to the late Harry Thomas, Sr. and Margarurite Holbrook Vernon. He was the retired Vice President and General Manager of the Jewell Ridge division of Pittston Coal Company and also worked for VFL & Shaw in environmental reclamation.
Rick was a 1960 graduate of Tazewell High School and a graduate of the McClain Business College in Bluefield, West Virginia. Mr. Vernon was a member of the City on a Hill Church and the Cedar Bluff Masonic Lodge #260 AF&AM. Those left to cherish his memory include: His wife of 51 years, Pat Wells Vernon Sons: Randy Vernon and wife, Laura of Raven, VA Brandon Vernon and Sarah Carty of Johnson City, TN Sisters: Shelia Smith of Princeton, West VA Nita Bandy of Middlesboro, KY Brothers: Harry Vernon, Jr. of Honaker, VA Charles Vernon and wife, Gracie of Tazewell, VA Granddaughter, Baleigh Vernon of Johnson City, TN He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and host of family and friends.
The family would like to extend gratitude to Jeannie, Mendy, Teresa and Judy with Home Nursing Co., Dr. Ulrich, and the staff of ICU at Russell County Medical Center for the excellent care that they provided to Mr. Vernon. Funeral services for Richard E. “Rick” Vernon will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Reverend Barry Absher officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Claypool Hill, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be: Gary Sizemore, Larry Sizemore, John Humphries, Rusty Herndon, Brandon Vernon, and Randy Vernon. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Greg Goss and Dr. Faisal Chaudhry. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5:00 PM on Tuesday evening.
