Richard’s Obituary Richard William Palmer, of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the age of 83. Richard was born on April 21, 1935 in Tarrytown, New York to Edward and Ethel Palmer. He graduated from Ossining High School in 1953.

On April 28, 1956 he married his high school sweetheart, Frances McAnally and they went on to have five children. Richard worked on the New York railroad as well as a correctional officer at the Westchester County Correctional facility in Valhalla, NY retiring in 1987. Richard was an avid deer hunter and loved hunting with his longtime friends on Hunter Mountain each year in upstate New York.

He also had a love for playing golf, working out and running (having run over 50 marathons from coast to coast as well as the London marathon. ) He enjoyed playing the trumpet for the Tarrytown VFW Fife, Drum and Bugle Corps. Richard was also a former member of the Ossining Volunteer Fire Police until his retirement in 1984.

During his 25 years of service as a volunteer fireman, he served as captain, taught first aid and CPR, and was a member of their dive team. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Frances, of 62 years; two daughters, Sheila D’Alessandro (Robert) of Pawleys Island, SC and Holly Poli (Keith) of Kingwood, TX; two sons, Richard Jr. (Cookie) Palmer of Wappinger Falls, NY and Todd (Kimmie) Palmer of Carmel, NY; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald Palmer in 1995 and daughter Donna Palmer in 2002.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
