Robert Eugene Lewis, Sr., 81, of Oakland MD, died Thursday, September 6, 2018, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland. Born September 3, 1937, in Oakland, he was the son of the late Charles R. and Blanche F. (Fulmer) Lewis. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, John “Jack” Lewis and Bradley Lewis; a daughter, Barbara Lynn and a sister, Mary Friend.

Robert was a coal miner for Island Creek Coal Company. He was an outstanding carpenter and was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandpappy. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mabel M. (Welch) Lewis, whom he married on September 20, 1958; four sons, Robert Lewis, Jr. and wife, Della, Gormania, WV; Brent Lewis and wife, Tammy; Brian Lewis and companion, Kim; and Brad Lewis and wife, Sandy, all of Oakland; one daughter, Beth Ann Helbig and husband, Chris, Oakland; two sisters Leona Nazelrod, Oakland; Charlotte Eidman, Palm Coast, FL.

; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. Services will be conducted at the Loch Lynn Church of God, 8649 Gorman Road, Oakland on Monday, September 10, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Ivan Ackerman officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Oakland. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be left for his family at www.
