Obituary for Robert Ray Quakenbush HOUSTON, Tex. – Robert Ray Quakenbush, age 63, formerly of Fountain City, Indiana, died Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at his home. Born January 23, 1955, in Richmond, Indiana, to Cloyce Verlin Quakenbush and Myra Grace Raper Quakenbush, Robert grew up in Fountain City and moved with his parents to Logansport and then to Anderson.

He was a 1973 graduate of Madison Heights High School in Anderson, Indiana. He worked at Delco Anderson for two years. In 1975, Robert moved to Hermosa Beach, California, with his friend, Jeff Babb.

He moved to Redonda Beach, California, and lived there until 1979, when he returned to Anderson, to be near his ailing father and to take classes at IUPUI. Following his father’s death in 1980, Robert moved to Nassau Bay, Texas, and soon joined his friends, Kevin, Gary, and Ross in Katy, Texas. In 2001 he moved to Houston where he lived until his unexpected death.

Robert earned his Air Conditioning Certificate and AC Masters Certificate. He was employed at Bell Park Hospital in 1981 for several years. His co-workers noted that he was very good at what he did.

Robert also became a private contractor and had several contractors work for him. He was very mechanically minded and loved to tinker with engines, especially his truck and motorcycle. Robert’s true love was duck hunting with his trusted dog, Brandy.

Waterfowl hunting with Brandy was his life. He was a duck hunting guide with his friend Gary in Forest Park, Texas. Robert was a member of Ducks Unlimited.

He enjoyed hunting ducks and other fowl, and fishing. Robert loved to ride his motorcycle. He rode from Indiana to California and back.

Survivors include his sister, Sara “Jane” (Robert J. Bartusch Jr.) Bartusch of Dayton, Ohio; brother, Charles (Helen) Quakenbush of Carmel, Indiana; nieces and nephews, Joe Bartusch of Newport, Kentucky, Jeff (Caitlin) Bartusch, Amelia Jane (age 4), and Alex Jeffery (age 1) of Westerville, Ohio, Dan (Megan) Quakenbush of Valparaiso, Florida, and Amanda (Matt) Quakenbush Graham of Indianapolis, Indiana; cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and “trusted companion” Chocolate Lab, Brandy and cat, Cashmere. Memorial visitation for Robert Ray Quakenbush will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.

Memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery near his parents.
