Robert Lincoln Hoye, 93, of Reedsville, formerly of Belpre, passed away at his residence on April 28, 2018. He was born February 22, 1925, in Oakland, MD, one of five children of the late Robert L. and Bertha Loudermilk Hoye. Bob went to Morgantown High School and then West Virginia University where he received his bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
He proudly served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945 with thirty months in North Africa and then in Italy with the 248th Field Artillery with the 5th Army. He then joined the Air Force Reserves and was commissioned in 1947 as 2nd Lieutenant. He was a former member of the Belpre Masonic Lodge no.
609 and the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Valley of Cambridge. Bob retired from Borg Warner Chemicals in 1987 after twenty-five years, having held positions as Sales Service Manager. Manager Western Region, Plant Manager in Oxnard, CA, Manager of Manufacturing Planning and Control, Plant Manager in Washington, WV and Vice President of Human Res.
He was active in many civic organizations including, Parkersburg Goodwill Industries, Parkersburg Toastmasters Club, Mid-Ohio Valley Red Cross, Parkersburg Community College Advisory Committee, Visiting Committee with WVU College, Wood County Employment and Economic Development Committee, Private Industry Council of WV, WV Safety Council and the WV Manufacturing Association. Bobs faith played an important part of his life and he had formerly been a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Belpre, St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Parkersburg, Centenary United Methodist Church in New Bern, NC and was a current member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pomeroy. Bob enjoyed time with his grandchildren, antique cars, golf, camping, traveling and bird carving.
He loved working outside in his yard and garden, and he was a big WVU fan. Surviving Bob is his wife Rose Marcinko Hoye, daughter Karen L. Gibson (Chuck) of Belpre, sons Robert L. Hoye, Jr. (Nancy) of Loveland, OH, Charles E. Hoye (Terri) of Lawrenceville, GA, two step children Christina Thornton (Matt), John Kelso (Krista), eight grandchildren, Joshua S. Gibson, Dr. Luke A. Gibson, Whitney R. Gibson, Brian R. Hoye, Kevin W. Hoye, Shannon N Holloman (David), Kelly E. Jacoby (Ben) and Ericka L. Hoye, three step grandchildren Connor Thornton, Kelsey Thornton, Levi Kelso and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Sass Hoye, and four sisters Marie H. Forbes, Isabel G. Popwell, Irene R. Moren and Mary L Magro.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pomeroy, OH with Father Tim Kozak celebrating. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens with full military rites by American Legion Post #15. Visitation will be from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 on Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre.
A Christian Wake service will be at 8:00 pm.
