Obituary for Sue L Cook Sue L. Cook, 63, of Grand Island passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 at All Faiths Funeral Home. Funeral Service to Celebrate the Life of Sue will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Dan Naranjo will officiate. Burial will follow at Grand Island City Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

Sue was born August 29, 1954 at Hastings, Nebraska to Robert and Ruth (Leonhardt) Barfknecht. Survivors include her parents; husband, John of Grand Island; daughter, Jenny (James) Chan of Wheat Ridge, CO; son, Mike (Jessica) Cook of Grand Island; eight grandchildren, Zach, Gaby, Natalie, Caleb, Hannah, Claire, Violet, and Elisabeth; brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Monica Barfknecht of Hastings, NE; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and Larry Karabel of York, Lois and John McClelland of Lutz, FL, Bonnie and Michael Hartley of Papillion; many nieces and nephews; aunt, Helen Dake of Lincoln; along with numerous cousins. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Pat and Diana Cook, Brad and Mary Wentzlaff, and June Marie and Dave Prokesh of Grand Island, Bernard and Jeannie Cook of St. Paul; several nieces and nephews.

Sue grew up in Hastings, graduating from Hastings High School with the class of 1972. She received a diploma in Business Administration from CCC in Hastings, and Associates Degree from CCC Grand Island. On August 27, 1936, Sue was married to John Cook in Hastings, making their home in Grand Island.

Sue worked various part time jobs when Jenny and Mike were small. After they were in school, she started her 32-year career as a Re Room Para-educator with GIPS. Sue grew up in the Evangelical Covenant Church and attended the Evangelical Free Church of Grand Island, Sue and John enjoyed family vacations with Jenny and Mike and later travels to Ireland with family and friends.

Sue also enjoyed learning about the Japanese culture through hosting Japanese students, as well as being a 4-H Labo chaperone to Japan. She was also proud of her German from Russia heritage and thankful for her grandparent’s courage to leave family and friends to start a new life in America. In lieu of flowers, Sue’s wisher are that you would send a bouquet to your Mother, Grandmother, Aunt or daughter and tell them how much they mean to you.

Memorials may be designated to the family to be given to BBN, Bible Broadcasting Network, whose broadcasts have meant so much to her and been a refuge during her illness.
