Obituary of Thomas Case Mr. Thomas Brown Case a life time resident of Port Jervis died Friday, April 6, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Place in Port Jervis. He was 89. He was born June 10, 1928 in Port Jervis, NY one of five sons of the late Howard Mapes Case and the late Marjorie Sybil Morman Case.
Although born handicapped with only one arm, he excelled and succeeded in life in the field of art and bookkeeping. After graduation, he worked as a bookkeeper in the family automobile agency, Case Motor Sales. In his later years, he worked in the Smoke Shop on Ball Street as a clerk which was owned at the time by his mother.
Tom took great pride in being able to own and drive his own car. He also enjoyed swimming, hunting, fishing and bowling. He bowled at the Port Jervis Lanes with the Spangenberg Market team in the Tuesday Night (B-2) League and in his later years, was an armchair coach for his beloved New York Yankees.
He also enjoyed his many friends who also frequented Homer’s Coffee Shop, which was almost a daily affair. Tom was always there for his family, especially his younger brother and their friends, taking them up to Cahoonzie Club to swim and Fish. Thomas was an employee of H.D. Case Motor Sales on 20 West Main Street in Port Jervis.
A family statement read: Tom’s family would like to extend a grateful thanks to Mary March, R.N. and her staff at Orange County Dept. Of Health, to Peter Masella, Social Caseworker at the Orange County Dept of Heath, Kathy Shortell and her staff at the Port Jervis Seniors Nutritional Program at the Health Center, for caring concerns for Tom in his later years in life. Also a special thank you to the nurses, doctors and staff and especially Regina Smith, RN at St. Joseph’s Place in Bon Secours Hospital for the compassionate care given to Tom in his final days.
Surviving are: 2 Brothers: Howard “Doug” Case & his wife Suzanne Sula, Montanna David Case and his companion Billie Mae Cuddebackville, NY Nephews: Corbin D. Case & wife Dolores Port Jervis, NY George W. Case Manhattan, NY David William Case & wife Lynne Silver Springs, MD Nieces: Sherry Lynn Latini & husband Joseph Saugerties, NY He is also survived by great-nieces and great nephews Predeceased brothers: Richard “Dick” William Case in 1953 and Hugh Mormon Case in 1966. Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc. 100 East Main Street Port Jervis on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 11:00am – 1:00pm. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 27, 2018 at 1:00pm from Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc., 100 East Main Street, Port Jervis with Pastor Peter Rustico of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Middletown officiating.
A burial of cremains will be in the family plot in the Laurel Grove Cemetery, Port Jervis, NY at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Port Jervis Volunteer Ambulance Corp. , P.O.
