William Garrett Wood , February 17, 1954 — June 20, 2018

William (Bill) Garrett Wood, 64, of Burnsville, NC passed away peacefully on June 17, 2018. William was born February 17, 1954 in Burlington, NC to Sabret Dennis (Pete) Wood and Ethel Wheeler Wood. Williams father was a WWII veteran and the recipient of a Purple Heart Medal.

William is survived by his daughter Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Wood, 32, of Davidson, NC and Cousin Mack Ray, of Burlington, NC. Bill grew up in Burlington, NC and was the youngest Elder in history at his childhood church Westminster Presbyterian Church, where his Father also served as an Elder and Deacon. Bill had a passion for fishing and the outdoors that was cultivated and nurtured at an early age.

He Graduated from UNC-Charlotte, and later worked for, then became the owner of Jani-Tech for over 20 years. Bill’s passion for the outdoors only grew stronger throughout his life. He spent most of his free time, fishing, golfing, spending time with his beloved dogs, feeding the wildlife outside his mountain home, and introducing the younger generation to a love of all things outdoors.

Bill had a kind nature, gentle mannerisms and a huge heart. He would help anybody he could and would donate to causes that would help those most close to him. A closed service for family and close friends will be held in the near future.

To Honor and Pay your respects to Bill, we ask that you follow Bill’s lead. Look around and look into your heart. Take care of someone close to you, a family member, a friend, a stranger, an animal in need.

Take a kid fishing, spend time with an elder, make the time to do for others. Just do something that has a positive impact. That would be Bill’s greatest legacy.

My command is this: “Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends”.
