Obituary for William R. Welles William R. “Mr. Bill” Welles, 71, passed away peacefully at Mercy Medical Center on Sunday, September 23, 2018, with his loving family by his side. Born in Hartford, CT on March 10, 1947, son of the late Arthur H. “Pete”and Gloria (Powell) Welles, he has resided in the Western Mass for the past forty five years. A US Army combat veteran of the Vietnam War he served with the 5th Calvary, 9th Infantry Division and received the Bronze Star Medal for bravery in battle along with the Vietnam Service Medal.

Bill was a retired twenty year auto technician for Central Chevrolet and also loved working on his own cars. An avid gardener, he especially loved his orchids. He loved his family more than anything and would never forget to hug his wife daily.

We will never forget his infectious laugh. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Sandra M. (LaBelle) Welles; two loving sons, David E. Vickers and wife Ela, of Chicopee, and Michael J. Vickers and wife Maria, of West Springfield; cherished grandchildren, Nicole, Kristina, Alyssa, Morgan, David Jr., and Alex; and great-grandbaby, Aubrey Lee, who will all deeply miss their “Grandpa Bill”. He also leaves his stepmother, Barbara Welles of Waynesville, NC; his sister, Sue Caron and husband Albe, of East Hartford, CT; his brother, Scott Welles and wife Tina, of Park City, MT and nieces and nephews.

A funeral home service for Bill will be heldWedenesday at 10AM in Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee followed by burial with Military Honors in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5-7PM. Upcoming Events Visitation , SEP 25.
